Noumenal Freedom and Kant’s Modal Antinomy

چکیده
Abstract Kant states in §76 of the third Critique that divine intuitive intellect would not represent modal distinctions. Kohl (2015) and Stang (2016) claim this statement entails noumena lack properties, which, turn, conflicts with Kant’s attribution contingency to human noumenal wills. They both propose resolutions conflict based on conjectures regarding how God might non-modally what our discursive intellects as modally determined. I argue (i) these proposals fail; (ii) viable resolution consists recognizing we modalize wills a merely regulative-practical principle judgements imputation.

Modal Motivations for Noumenal Ignorance: Knowledge, Cognition, and Coherence
My goal in this paper is to show that Kant’s prohibition on certain kinds of knowledge of things-in-themselves is motivated less by his anti-soporific encounter with Hume than by his new view of the distinction between “real” and “logical” modality, a view that developed out of his reflection on the rationalist tradition in which he was trained. In brief: at some point in the 1770’s, Kant came ...
متن کاملAOP and the Antinomy of the Liar
Unless explicitly prevented, aspects can apply to themselves and can therefore change their own behaviour. This self-adaptation can lead to syntactically correct programs that express antinomies, i.e., that are meaningless (have no intuitive semantics). Drawing the parallel to mathematical logic, we suggest adopting the classical solution presented by Russell and Tarski, i.e., the separation of...
متن کاملKANTS: Artifical Ant System for Classification
This paper investigates a new model that takes advantage of the cooperative self-organization of Ant Algorithms to evolve a naturally inspired pattern recognition (and also clustering) method. The approach considers each data item as an ant that changes the environment as it moves through it. The algorithm is successfully applied to well-known classification problems and yields better results t...
